Here is a rare 3 piece vintage set by Hardy Davidson folk art hand carved wooden mallard ducks. Condition is used Note These ducks are in overall great shape for the era they was made in. The largest duck has 2 cracks right where the start of the wing is (as shown in photos). Measurements are only approximate and shown the best i can get in the photos All 3 of the ducks have a metal loop hook on the back for hanging on the wall. They would be great wall decor for that cabin in the woods Details on the artist of the carvings.
Hardy Davidson is a self taught artist from the Swannanoa, North Carolina. He later studied under George Aurthur of the Artisans Shop in Asheville. He is widely known for his duck carvings. Davidson also taught woodworking at Warren Wilson College in North Carolina. His carvings have increasingly become harder to find.Hardy Davidson, whose ancestors settled in WNC around the time of the Revolutionary War, was a mostly self-taught woodcarving artist born in 1900. He is especially known for his colorful ducks, designed to be displayed on a wall. Although Davidson rarely traveled outside of his native Swannanoa Valley, his mallards flew off the shelves in northern metropolitan shops and craft galleries.
They migrated into national magazines like House & Garden, and eventually nested in private European collections.
