Roesel studied painting with his father and uncle, and later with the renowned Preisler in Nuremberg. While living in Copenhagen, he became inspired by the work of Maria Sibylla Merian. Roesel also did much of the engraving for his works.

The detail images show the (external) reproductive organs. Condition: Very good, given age. Some faint soiling and/or staining in the margin edges. Quite pronounced offsetting from the opposite text page. Size (in cm): The overall size is ca. 21.5 x 27.5 cm. The image size is ca. 13 x 17.5 cm. Size (in inch): The overall size is ca. 8.5 x 10.8 inch.
