Rosel van Rosenhof' after own design. Augustus Johannes Rosel von Rosenhof (1705-59) was a German miniature painter, and naturalist and entomologist. Roesel studied painting with his father and uncle, and later with the renowned Preisler in Nuremberg.

While living in Copenhagen, he became inspired by the work of Maria Sibylla Merian. Roesel also did much of the engraving for his works. Subject: 3 Antique prints, titled:''Classis I.' - These prints show: Tab.

The silkworm is the larva of the domestic silkmoth (Bombyx mori) that lives on white mulberry. It is shown here in various stages of development, and with details of the salivary glands that produce the raw silk. Also shows a dissected specimen. Condition: Very good, given age. Some faint soiling and/or staining in the margin edges. Image faintly browned and with some faint offsetting of opposite text pages. Size (in cm): The overall size is ca. 21.5 x 27.5 cm. The image size is ca. 13 x 17.5 cm.

Size (in inch): The overall size is ca. 8.5 x 10.8 inch. 5.1 x 6.9 inch. Medium: Handcoloured engraving on hand laid (verge) paper.
