Audubon Quadrupeds of North America Three Volume Set

  

Rare First Edition 3 volume set. The Quadrupeds of North America by, with 155 fine hand-colored lithograph and chromo-lithograph plates of mammals.

These antique books have a regal ruddy brown morocco leather cover over marbled end boards, six raised bands along the spine and gilt titling. The colored plates are in excellent condition with all tissue guards intact. There are some that have spotting but overall the plates have been well preserved. The text pages show signs of age with spotting and foxing, though are otherwise in good condition.

There are no tears, creases or damage to the paper. The bindings are tight and the leather covers show minimal wear. The edges of the covers and some of the raised ribs show some shelf wear including rub damage to the leather and small cracks. This is a remarkable find for fans of Audubon.
