These are real butterfly wings, hand mounted and fixed on paper. The pieces are very old, pre 1940, since, according to some specialists, there are some wings from extinct butterfly species. Many people say these were made using wings from butterflies found dead and not by catching live ones. And I want to believe this story.
Even if these are made with real natural wings of dead insects, the colors are full of life and the shapes are extraordinary. Imagine these framed and put on a wall together.
And thinking that someone, in the past, took probably several days just to finish one, by fixing one wing at a time... All of the pieces have hundreds if not thousands of wings each.
Imagine the work took to make them.. These are very old pieces, but I mounted them on new frames so they can be ready to put on walls, as you can see from the photo.
