ORIGINAL 18th C. Georg Wolfgang Knorr Deliciae Naturae SEASHELL Engravings PAIR

  

This listing is for a PAIR of original 18th Century Large Size copper engravings Plate B and BI from the 1754 "Deliciae Naturae Selectae" publication illustrated by Georg Wolfgang Knorr. Both prints are hand colored on chain laid paper with Fleur De Lis watermark. The Plate B engraving was examined out of the frame to get a better understanding of the condition and to authenticate the production method, size of the page and the watermark.

Dimensions of the paper are 20.5" (52.5 cm) height, 14.25" (35 cm) width. On the left edge there are indentations which suggest this engraving was part of a book.

The impressed plate outline has rounded corners and it measures 13" (33.2 cm) height, 8.25" (21 cm) width. For comparison an engraving of the same age and size Plate B II is part of the Metropolitan Museum collection and reference can be found on the museums website. Please consult photos for more details, some of the images display white spots which are a reflections caused by the glass, they are not part of the engraving.

As shown, there is pencil writing at the bottom edge of the Plate B engraving. I do not know if it is original or if it was later added to the page while being framed.
