Kaulbach was a noted illustrator associated with the German Romantic Movement, King Ludwig l of Bavaria was his Patron. All were published in Germany in 1846 as illustrations to the first edition of'Reineke Fuchs' a book of fables about Reynard by Goethe. Only the first edition had these engravings, in later editions they were replaced with smaller wood engravings which could be reproduced in larger numbers. I will include the boards of the book (shown in the final photograph) and some pages of text as provenance of origin, unfortunately the book had been disbound and had some of the original 37 plates removed by an earlier owner. All of the engravings are printed cream coloured wove paper and many are still protected by a tissue guard. Note many of the tissue guards are creased, spotted and torn. Each sheet measures 32.5 x 25.5cm, the sizes of the images vary from 16 x 18cm to 26 x 25cm. My aim is to offer a selection of interesting, well researched works with prices starting at just a few pounds and to increase the appreciation of engravings! Also, happy to take on commissions if there are specific artists or types of work you would like found for you. New items are added regularly so please do keep looking. I hope all past, present and prospective customers stay safe and well through these extraordinary times. With best wishes to all.
