Haeger catalogs list the cats as tigers, even though they have no stripes nor are their bodies tiger-like. These are perhaps the most famous creations from the studio artist Royal Hickman, who worked for Haeger in the late 1930s and created this much sought after set. This has a gorgeous leopard pattern with a mustard yellow mottled with brown and the spotted greenery on the bases of all 3 pieces gives it a camouflaged look.
The low crouched cat piece measures 12½ inches long, 8¼ inches tall and the base is 4½ inches wide. The base is not marked and the rear lower corners have tiny chips almost on the underside. The tall cat measures 10 inches long, 11 inches tall and the base is 4¼ inches wide. The base is embossed with Royal Haeger Royal Hickman and Made in U. There is a paint chip on the top right ear, small nicks on the underside front corners, a small spot on the left chest and it is heavily crazed. The planter vase measures 9¾ inches across the front, 3½ inches deep and 8 inches tall. The base is not marked; there is a sizable chip on the top on one end (see photo) and some staining on the inside of the vase.
This is a stunning trio, a beautiful 3 piece console set, in excellent vintage condition, especially considering it is around 70 years old!
